DCD Rights represents programming and formats from some of the top international producer/directors and independent producers. Its programming catalogue is a unique portfolio of high quality factual, entertainment, drama, rock/pop music and arts programming.
The recent agreement whereby DCD Rights has access to a rolling fund of £10 million to invest in exploitation rights in programmes marks a step change in DCD’s distribution operations, dramatically increasing its size and enabling it to represent more major programming, from international dramas and factual and reality series to individual documentaries.
To mark this it has changed its name from NBDtv to DCD Rights. This is an important stage in the maturity of the group’s distribution operations, which began with the niche Digital Classics Distribution, expanded and became more mainstream with the acquisition in 2005 of NBDtv, the highly respected distributor which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, and then expanded as DCD’s production divisions grew, to include September International in August 2007.
This fund will be used as distribution investment and will see an average of about 50% of the net sales forecast (after commission) advanced to producers upon programme delivery. It is anticipated that some of these programmes will be DCD’s internal productions, while others will be produced by third parties. Fund profits from the sales achieved will be ploughed back as further investment in programme distribution. For both producer clients and the production divisions of DCD this arrangement also delivers a cashflow benefit and has the potential to enable otherwise underfunded programmes to be profitably produced.
