Award winning Drama Land Girls breaks new territories with third season Sales
International distributor DCD Rights announces that it has sold rights for the third season of award winning drama 'Land Girls' to SVT Sweden and Sky New Zealand.
The two broadcasters join an array of networks around the world who have previously acquired seasons of the popular series, including Sundance Channel Global (France, Benelux, Canada, Asia and Eastern Europe), American Public TV, YLE Finland, NRK Norway, Globosat Brazil, and YLE Finland plus DVD deals with BFS for North America and Acorn in the UK. ABC Australia, ABC Commercial Australia and Danmarks Radio (Denmark) also acquired Season 1 and 2.
'Land Girls', produced by BBC Productions, now in its third season and totalling 15 hours has seen its three seasons achieve high ratings and critical acclaim, a success echoed by worldwide sales and multiple awards, including notably RTS for best drama, best actress (Sophie Ward), best actor (Danny Webb) and best newcomer (Becci Gemmell).
Season 3 (5x 45’) aired in November 2011 on BBC One delivering again high ratings, as it continued to follow the lives and loves of four girls away from home, doing their bit for Britain in the Women's Land Army during World War II.
Set on the Hoxley estate and in the village of Helmstead, against the backdrop of war weary 1940’s Britain, the drama is based at the run down Pasture Farm and the opulent Hoxley Manor, which is taken over as a hospital when the local military hospital is bombed.
The returning cast for the third series include Sophie Ward as Lady Hoxley, Mark Benton as Farmer Finch, Susan Cookson and Mykola Allen as Esther and her son Martin, Nicholas Shaw as John Fisher, David Schofield as Vernon Storey and Carolyn Pickles as Mrs Gulliver.
