Growth of super-indie continues as DCD Media buys Prospect Pictures, September Films and West Park Pictures
11 July 2007
AIM-LISTED production and distribution group DCD Media has acquired Prospect Pictures, September Films and West Park Pictures in a series of multimillion pound deals, propelling the group into the top 10 super-indie league with combined turnover of more than £50m.
The three newly acquired entities join DCD's existing portfolio of companies including high-end drama producer Box TV, music and arts producer Iambic Productions, music and event producer Done & Dusted and international distributor NBDtv. All DCD-owned companies retain their own corporate identities under the umbrella of parent company DCD Media.
Chris Hunt, CEO of DCD Media, said: "We are thrilled that Prospect, September and West Park have joined us as part of DCD Media. This deal puts DCD among the largest independent production groups in the UK. Since our launch in 1999 as a company specialising in digital arts content, we have built an unrivalled portfolio of programming across all the main genres and I'm delighted that we have so many highly talented and respected people working within the group."
Following these acquisitions, DCD Media is responsible for 1,000s of hours of TV production a year, a complete arts and entertainment programming solution via its distribution catalogue and boasts awards from all the major TV festivals including several Baftas and Emmys, Montreux Roses d'Or and Prix Italia. DCD's programmes cover the range of genres from drama to documentaries, factual entertainment, formats and lifestyle to high end arts and live events.
Prospect Pictures' managing director Liam Hamilton said: "We are delighted to become part of DCD and are really looking forward to working alongside such a high quality group of production companies. With the extra firepower now available to us as part of a listed company, we believe the future for Prospect Pictures and particularly for expansion of our Cardiff based company, Prospect Wales, is very exciting."
September Films' chairman David Green said: "A bright future dawns for September Films under the DCD banner as our long-running Hollywood and Bridezillas factual entertainment brands continue to flourish worldwide and our programming push into America is given even more impetus by the collective clout of the other outstanding production companies within the DCD group."
West Park Pictures' chief executive Andre Singer said: "After many years both as an independent and as a commissioning editor, I have long realized that collaboration with others is the best way to guarantee stability and security. Our fear has always been the threat of a loss of creativity that might follow becoming part of a larger group. With DCD Media, however, we have found an ideal structure enabling us to play to our strengths whilst having compatible partners we like and respect - the best ingredients for a successful future."
